December 18, 2025 Update

Dear Brothers and sister in Christ,

Let me share some of my experiences with you on the occasion of the death of my friend and brother in Christ Bill De Jong.

I begin by thanking God for having placed that man in my path. To avoid being too long, I will simply share some of my experiences with Bill that few people may knew.

In 1999, Bill personally approached me to offer his collaboration. After a time of prayer, I accepted his proposal. I had to take time to pray and reflect because, at that time I was working under the umbrella of "Mission To The World" and I didn't want to create any uncomfortable situations. Shortly after we reached an agreement, Bill began working to help me transform the lives of many people and families in Haiti.

I. Here is the situation before Bill and his organization, Mission To Haiti Canada, I had received many volunteers but we had no real plan or projects. When the teams came, we weren't really prepared for them. They came as they were on vacation and they spent the week without really getting involved in the ministry. The duration of their visit to Haiti was one week and they took out of it one Saturday to travel to haiti, one Sunday to go to church for worship, one day to go to the beach, one day to go to port au Prince to buy souvenirs and the other Saturday they traveled back home. So we had very little time for projects. It worth mentioning that we organized medical clinics when we had doctors and nurses available. We also sometimes, had training seminar for Church leaders and school teachers

II. Here is the situation with Bill De Jong and Mission To Haiti Canada,
  1. He taught me first how to manage the ministry. He sat down with me and told me to require $40.00/day/person/each team that came to visit us. That amount of money was to be paid to Presbyterian mission in Haiti and was intended to cover accommodation, two meals a day(breakfast and dinner), team transportation (airport pick up and drop -off) and if anything left, it would go to the ministry 's account.
  2. Bill and his organization always had a plan and projects for each team.
  3. Beside money for accommodation, each team had to bring money for the project they were to carry out during their visit in Haiti.
  4. PMH was to receive the total amount of money for the project and half of the money for accommodation in order to purchase materials and food before each team arrival.
  5. According to my Brother Bill, one week was too short to be in the mission field if we need to accomplish any project. He decided that all teams from Mission To Haiti Canada would stay for two weeks in Haiti, not on vacation but to work on various projects.
  6. Bill chose to bring teams twice a year to work exclusively with PMH and his teams always consisted 60, 70 and 80 people each time.
  7. Before his retirement Bill spent most of his time with my wife and me and he had his own room in our house in Messailler. He was there not to spy but to work and supervise the projects that we started together.
  8. After his retirement, Bill handed the torch to a wonderful team to continue to work with Presbyterian mission in Haiti until today.
These are some of my experiences with my friend and Brother in Christ Bill De Jong. He helped me build a ministry by staying behind the scenes.

May my dear friend and Brother in Christ rest in peace! He will certainly be missed!

March 08, 2025 Update

Last year was very challenging as the country is still in chaos with the gangs running rampant and disrupting everyday life. We continue to support the child sponsorship program on a limited basis. We cannot visit to take pictures or do letters, but that has not affected their education. It is truly a blessing to be able to send these children to school to enrich their lives through education.

We are now using the funds that would have gone to a container to allow Pastor Charles to do food distribution to his churches and communities. The gangs have forced Pastor Charles to re-locate to Port au Prince for safety. The camp and schools contine to function under leadership of the church members. The threat of kidnapping is real for anyone who is thought to have money.

The camp has now been set up to run on solar energy which allows it to operate without the need for hydro or the generator. Please pray for this impoverished nation.

April 13, 2024 Update

Good evening,

Realizing that nothing positive is happening in Haiti after more than a month spent outside of Cabaret, to stay in Port au prince and Cap Haitian with Antonine and 7 orphans ; realizing that we are spending a lot of money to buy food and others on ourselves while hundreds people from the ministry and Cabaret have nothing to eat. While on Cap Haitian it was heart breaking we were receiving phone Calls from Cabaret and traveau asking for food ; they did that because they knew that we always have soup and others to assist them. Mission of Hope and PMH used to be the only organisations to assist the communities. Mission of hope moves the food facility to Port au prince and PMH does not receive a container from MTH for about three years. It was heart breaking when we received phone calls from Cabaret last thursday informing that about 16 people were killed in Cabaret by the gangs, it is sad to see that we had no school in Cabaret for almost 2 months except the candidates to the government exams. We decided to return to Cabaret today so we can be there for the Church and we decide to reopen all the grades in Messailler and Foveau this monday.

Please continue to pray with us and for us because the situation is more complicated than it was before. We were so happy to reconnect with the Church people today.

March 28, 2024 Update

Good morning Brother,

Very few schools are operating as normal. As for us, Patrick kept the grades designated to go to the government exams operating; We hope we will be able to operate in full capacity after Easter.

Thanks for asking
Pastor Charles
